Our #1 focus as a company is to grow our sales to $1 billion over the next 5 years. Among other initiatives, this growth journey includes significant investment and focus on developing our women’s custom clothing line, which will effectively double our customer base. 

To that end, we are hiring an enterprising, entrepreneurial, hard-working Marketing Director to support our growing sales force with the tools, resources, programs and brand awareness needed for them to drive our company forward.

 

Job Description

The Director of Marketing will report to the Vice President of Retail Development and oversee all aspects of brand awareness for our company. 

This will be a sales-driven role. Interested applicants should understand that Tom James is a direct selling company. We are especially interested in candidates with experience marketing within a sales-focused company, i.e. direct sales or a company with a large sales force. Experience with luxury products/services is also a plus.

We don’t advertise or engage in traditional marketing as it is our growing sales force that drives us forward. This creates unique challenges in terms of consistent messaging, brand representation, and scalability that this position will be centrally involved in addressing. Thus, the Marketing Director will be heavily involved in building programs and resources that channel a consistent, scalable representation of who we are and what we do for our customers through the sales force. 

More so than marketing positions at more traditionally structured companies, the right individual for Tom James will have a desire to serve, to network and collaborate with our sales people, and to teach and train. They will be passionate about translating their vision through an increasing number of sales professionals each year. They will be accustomed to measuring the effectiveness of their ideas and efforts through objective sales impact.

 

The following is a more specific, detailed list of job duties/responsibilities that will be entailed in this position:

 

  • Support our sales force in the acquisition of new customers via the development of lead nurturing/lead development methodologies;

  • Work with Sales Development to create email + social media cadence (both through corporate platforms and via individual sales professional platforms);

  • Develop and maintain our content strategy;

  • Manage our website messaging, design/layout and especially lead generation strategies;

  • Manage our search/keyword strategy and investments;

  • Manage our sales prospecting tools/platforms—select, test, negotiate/contract, etc. (part of lead development);

  • Implement customer acquisition programs—partnerships, events, affiliate relationships, etc.;

  • Drive customer awareness of new products/services;

  • Create and manage customer acquisition and appreciation programs;

  • Manage and lead employees and/or contractors to accomplish departmental goals

 

There will be additional opportunities and areas of focus for this position, but in general our expectation is that this individual comes to Tom James with a high level of ownership for: 1) Sales Growth, 2) New Customer Development and 3) Empowerment of the Sales Force. These 3 end-in-mind objectives will significantly inform the ongoing creativity and solution-seeking involved in this role.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 8 - 10 years of broad Marketing experience including digital/social as well as traditional marketing experience

  • College degree preferred

  • Strong executive presence with senior leaders and abilities to influence at all levels within an organization

  • Collaboration mindset, with the ability to quickly form relationships with senior-level partners

  • Approach challenges with curiosity and open-mindedness; offer new ideas or solutions

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information discretely and professionally

  • Familiarity with luxury products/services

  • Familiarity with change management principles and approaches

  • Ability to lead through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment

 

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position will include a salary plus a lucrative, performance-based bonus plan. A stock/employee ownership plan will also be included in the overall pay package. Our comprehensive employment package includes health, dental, 401(k), profit sharing, PTO and other benefits. This is a full-time, salaried position.

Provides general support to Store Leader and Sales Professionals as described below.  Performs other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Order Entry

  • Enter Order Tickets, Customer Order Forms (COFs), and customer payments daily 
  • Print order summary, obtain Sales Professional approval and make necessary changes
  • Match deposit summary with orders after nightly batch runs 
  • Follow up on Denied Credit Card Report with associated Sales Professional daily
  • Print Orders Not Uploaded Report for all Sales Professionals
  • Process returns, remakes and alterations

Telephones/ E-Mail

  • Answer incoming phone calls and give messages to Sales Professional 
  • Take detailed message with name, number, time of call, and reason for calling 
  • Check Store e-mail daily and give all information to the proper person(s) 

Bank Deposits/Errands

  • Prepare bank deposit slips and take to bank (at least three times a week)
  • Fax validated deposit slips to Accounting 
  • Send matching deposit slip and deposit summary to Accounting
  • run errands to dry cleaners, outside tailors and clients as needed

Garment Check In

  • Collect shipment packing slips and enter in computer daily
  • Print Received Report;  notify Sales Professionals when items received daily
  • Follow up on items not been received within timely manner 

Mail

  • Open and process all mail 
  • Copy and distribute faxes pertaining to all Sales Professionals 
  • Stamp all outgoing mail  
  • Take all outgoing mail to drop box/post office

  • Maintain office supplies
  • Conduct tie Inventory twice a year

Hours: 30 hours per week; Monday – Friday

Rate of Pay: $19-$21 per hour
